With the world heading towards advanced generation of miniaturized components in all spheres - be it daily application or any other item of technocrat interest, self-reliance in the top grade semiconductor wafer is a must. Anything we think of - surgery, automobile, textile, IT etc. are all heading towards automation and miniaturization. The semiconductor wafer forms the building block. Although our country in the coastal belt has a very good reservoir of the required raw material for manufacturing this top-grade semiconductor wafer, the item is being imported by paying more than twenty times the actual cost. The group intends to acquire the technology either by buying/developing the technology and undertake to set up a massive infrastructure to manufacture the semiconductor wafer within India. The raw material and labor cost would be unimaginably very low. The initial investment may be considerably higher owing to setting up of the full fledged manufacturing and testing unit. Nevertheless, the long term benefits cannot be ruled out as nobody can escape this semiconductor revolution. Above all, the biggest advantage lies in the fact that the required raw material reservoir is immense in the country.
